I do not know if this flocking is a result of some kind of natural process or if it is chemical

Crassula Mermaid Cluster Pink' so please know she's notCrassula Mermaid can throw incredible bright orange hues with the right stress conditions. This is a very pretty cluster, not fully stressed (and has some bottom leaves that are supporting the upper leaves and have dried out a bit). This cluster is measuring in at about 3. 5" across.
