Tips for managing diarrhea Drink extra fluids so you do not get dehydrated Avoid greasy, spicy, and high-fat foods Eat smaller, plainer meals while symptoms last Cut back on sugar-free products containing sorbitol, mannitol, or xylitol Limit caffeine and alcohol Ask your healthcare provider before using over-the-counter anti-diarrhea medicine Contact your healthcare provider if diarrhea is severe, lasts more than a couple of days, or you notice signs of dehydration such as dark urine, dizziness, or urinating much less than usual
