You should contact your GP if you experience any of the following : Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) : soaking through a pad or tampon every hour for several consecutive hours, passing clots larger than a 50p coin, or bleeding lasting longer than seven days Postcoital or intermenstrual bleeding : any bleeding between periods or after sexual intercourse requires investigation to exclude structural or pathological causes Complete absence of periods (amenorrhoea) for three months or more : particularly if you previously had regular cycles and pregnancy has been excluded Severe pelvic pain : especially if accompanied by fever, unusual discharge, or pain during intercourse, which could indicate infection or other gynaecological conditions Sudden onset of very irregular cycles : if your previously predictable periods become highly erratic without explanation Your GP will likely perform a thorough assessment , including a detailed menstrual history, medication review, and examination if appropriate
